Johnson Financial Group is continuing its investment into its bank branch network with plans to update one of its locations in Southeast Wisconsin.
The Racine-based company is pitching a plan to raze its current building at 3928 60th St. in Kenosha to construct a 5,080-square-foot building with an attached drive-thru just to the east at the northwest corner of 60th Street and 39th Avenue, according to city documents.
“The existing facility, which has stood for over 50 years, no longer aligns with our current design standards or the high level of service our customers have come to expect,” Johnson Financial Group CEO Jim Popp said in a statement.
No timeline for project completion was given. The project is valued at $4 million, according to the filings.
The Redmond Co. will serve as architect for the project, with The Sigma Group serving as engineer and Heller & Associates LLC serving as landscape architect. The Redmond Co. previously worked with Johnson Financial Group on its $8 million flagship office in downtown Milwaukee.
As part of the proposal, Johnson Bank would also conduct a land swap with the adjacent Grace Bible Chapel at 3917 59th St. Some of the parking area south of the church would become bank property, while the bank would deed over the area of its property that is currently the drive-up to a detached drive-thru canopy, the filings show. The church would use the space as additional parking.
As other banks have reduced their physical branch footprints, Johnson Financial Group has gone against the grain by expanding. Recent projects include the new West Milwaukee office at 4319 W. National Ave. that opened in mid-2024.
Johnson Financial Group is among the largest private companies based in the Milwaukee area with $289.52 million in revenue in its latest fiscal year and 597 local staff, according to Business Journal research. It includes Johnson Bank and wealth management subsidiary Johnson Wealth.
Johnson Bank ranks as one of the Wisconsin-based banks with the fastest-growing deposits, with $303.4 million more in deposits in 2024 than in 2023, according to Business Journal research. The bank reported $3.28 billion in local deposits as of June 30, 2024, ranking as the fifth-largest bank in the Milwaukee area.
