This year's list of Power Players goes in a slightly different direction than in past years — and is supersized, to boot.

The program is entering its 10th year, and that has led us to shake things up a bit, including creating a new category that honors those who have been recognized for each of the years the Business Journal has compiled the list. Called the Power Player Pillars, these individuals have been selected from the names of those who have appeared on the Power Players list every year over the past decade.

That opened the door for some new names and faces to be added to the list, with the staff pulling together a total of 150 people who you need to know in Milwaukee.

Even with that, the list isn't exhaustive: There are many deserving executives who are not on the list — we eschewed those actively running for office, for instance, and tried to balance those who have had a long-time impact on the region with individuals who are more on the up-and-coming side of things.

This list is designed to be the beginning of a conversation. It's a guide to networking with the leaders you need to know, using their inclusion as a jumping off point to working together to shape a bright future for Southeast Wisconsin.

Hopefully this project will help you connect with some people who are household names in the business community and those who are building connections now that will shape the region for years to come.

We're glad to have the opportunity to celebrate these leaders, and we look forward to seeing the impact they and their peers have going forward.
